Growth Habit: upright broad
USDA Zone: 5-8
Exposure: full sun
Growing Conditions: well drained soils
Comments: An always popular selection of Japanese white pine, though with a complex history. Typically forms a sweeping habit, but no two are alike. Soft, golden highlights with silver undertones on curved, green needles. Though correctly called 'Tenysu-kazu', 'Goldylocks' (incorrectly 'Goldilocks') has greater marketing appeal and is what most growers call it today. This cultivar originated in Japan and was brought to Canada by a collector, Dr. Henry Landis. After his death it was propagated and named 'Dr. Landis Gold'. Along the way it ended up being shortened to 'Dr. Landis'. So no less then 5 names were attributed to this cultivar. Confusing indeed!
